AD Free Los Angeles, July 4th, 2009

AD-FREE-LA: On JULY 4th, the Citizens of Los Angeles are Declaring Independence from illegal corporate advertising.

Los Angeles is covered in illegal advertising, billboards, and corporate logos in public spaces while city officials don't seem to want to do anything about it. So it's up to us to take care of this corporate sponsored blight.

July 4th, 2009. In one night, every billboard will be modified or removed, and every digital billboard will disabled, as will every advertisement on buses & trains, including their stops. Every corporate advertisement, big or small, will be changed or removed into something we rather see.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! This is how:

STEP ONE: PASS IT ON! Pass this URL along, http://adfreela.blogspot.com/, to all your trusted friends and tell them to do the same. Create stickers and stencils with this address, and put them everywhere! Place them in public bathrooms, on bills and corporate logos. Do this everywhere, do this ASAP! Be creative, soap on a rope, freeway signs? Be ironic, purchase ad space in your favorite, or not so favorite, periodical, magazine, newspaper, blog or website. Create flyers and distribute them, today! Create a MIRROR!

STEP TWO: CREATE TEAMS! You can do it yourself, but it's more fun with friends, plus it's safer. Gather together an autonomous affinity group of friends you trust and start practicing. Ideally two people stand guard with a whistle, or other warning device, while one or two modify, recreate or eliminate. Take turns, have fun!

STEP THREE: SCOUT OUT TARGETS! Is there a particular billboard you want to hit? Take pictures, weight options, plan an attack, practice & repeat on another target. Fill your night with as many targets as you can. The more the merrier! We want to blanket the town!

STEP FOUR: JUST DOOWIT! On July 4th, 2009, assemble your teams and hit the streets. While everyone else is watching your tax dollars pop and sparkle in the sky, your team will be redecorating the city in ways only YOU can imagine. Create what you want to see in your city. Make it BIG! Show off, and make people happy.
